Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
🌱 Buying & Growing Our Herbs
Are your herb plants suitable for beginners?
Yes — many of our herbs are ideal for beginners. Herbs like mint, chives, parsley, thyme and rosemary are easy to grow and forgiving if you’re new to gardening. Each plant comes ready to grow, so there’s no need to start from seed.
Can I grow your herbs in pots or containers?
Absolutely. Most of our herbs grow very well in pots, containers, or window boxes. This makes them perfect for patios, balconies, and small gardens. We recommend pots with good drainage and regular watering during dry weather.
Can herbs be grown indoors?
Some herbs, such as basil, parsley and chives, can be grown indoors on a bright windowsill. Others prefer outdoor conditions. If you’re unsure, feel free to get in touch and we’ll happily advise.
Do you have a shop I can visit?
No — we’re an online nursery only. We do, however, attend a small number of markets and events during the year. Please see our Events page for details.
Are your herbs grown naturally?
Yes. Our herbs are grown naturally and without pesticides. We focus on healthy plants that thrive once they reach your garden, rather than forcing rapid growth.
How long will my herb plants last?
Many herbs are perennial, meaning they come back year after year (such as rosemary, thyme and sage). Others are annuals and last for one season. With regular harvesting and basic care, most herbs will produce for many months.
When is the best time to plant herbs in the UK?
Herbs can usually be planted from spring through early autumn. Some hardy herbs can be planted earlier or overwintered outdoors. We recommend protecting young plants from frost.
Do I need special soil to grow herbs?
Most herbs prefer free-draining soil. A general-purpose compost works well for pots, and garden soil can be improved with compost or grit if needed. Avoid waterlogged conditions, especially for Mediterranean herbs.
How often should I water my herbs?
Herbs like moist but not soggy soil. It is best ususally to allow herbs to dry between watering. Water when the top of the soil feels dry. Herbs in pots will need watering more often than those in the ground, especially in warm weather.
Can I harvest herbs straight away?
Yes — light harvesting is encouraged as it helps plants grow bushier. Avoid cutting more than a third of the plant at one time, especially when newly planted.
🛒 Ordering & Delivery
How are the plants packaged for delivery?
Our plants are carefully packed to protect them during transit. We aim to ensure they arrive healthy and ready to plant as soon as possible.
When do you dispatch orders?
Orders are usually dispatched Monday to Thursday to avoid plants being held in transit over the weekend. This helps ensure they arrive in the best possible condition. orders placed up to Wednesday are usually dispatched that same week.
Do you deliver across the UK?
Yes, we deliver to most UK addresses. Full delivery details can be found on our Delivery page.
What should I do when my plants arrive?
Unpack your plants as soon as possible. Water them lightly if needed and allow them to settle for a day or two before planting out or repotting.
🌿 Still Not Sure?
